There are so many surfing school in bali, one of the best is the ripcurl surf school the asia’s leading surfing center, was established in 1998 and has an international reputation for offering the finest services, facilities and qualities.

The Courses
Beginner Level
Course one
At beginner level, the Rip Curl School of Surf provides an introduction to surfing, with three initial courses to cover the key basic skills and surf safety. Course One takes you through the basics of board handling and the jump up and at the end of it you’ll be riding your first wave.

Course two and three
Moving forward, Courses Two and Three offer a more complete introduction to the sport of surfing. Learn about paddling, knowing waves, sets and lulls. Course three takes you through your first forehand and backhand turns and the art of gathering speed.

Intermediate Level
Course four and five
Course Four covers transitional turns from forehand to backhand and provides the foundation for the key manoeuvre in surfing, the cutback. Course Five teaches the techniques for generating speed, taking off on the angle and using compression and extensions for body positioning.

Course Six
Course Six introduces environmental issues focusing on reading positioning in the lineup, wave selections, surfing rules and etiquette. The intermediate courses are key preparation for reef and large wave riding.

Advance Level
Ripcurl School of Surf will work you hard, with precision drills for mastering the maneuvers: re-entries, floaters and roundhouse cut backs. These courses are directly derived from their competitive surfing drills. The advanced level offers specialist courses to cover tow-in surfing, competitive level surfing maneuvers and preparing for competitions. Training Camps are held annually for young local and foreign surfers with an international line up of coaches and professional surfers.

Private Class
For accelerated learning in a one on one environment, private lessons provide a shorter route to success. With a dedicated course structure developed for individual tuition, students can request coaching in specific areas; cover all or part of the entire syllabus at their own pace or undertake a surf skill review to build a tailored program for intensive training.

Kids Surf class
Youngsters learning to surf need special attention, which is why they only offer private tuition in small groups for anyone under the age of 12. They provide a dedicated instructor and surf assistants and limit class sizes to two per instructor to ensure everyone gets the attention they deserve. And because they’re small, so are the prices – under 12s pay just 50% for private lessons.

Equipments and Facilities
Ripcurl School of Surf pay attention to every little detail at their School of Surf to make sure their students get the best possible experience and the most they can from every lesson. You’ll be collected in a fully air-conditioned surf wagon, driven to the location and kitted out in the latest Rip Curl rash shirts, board shorts and/or wetsuit. They insist on using Gath surf helmets for safety in all their lessons and they boast a range of surf, wind and kite equipment that is absolutely the best available for tuition. they take care to provide a comprehensive experience in theory and in practice so they provide students with a pre and post course study book. Refreshments, sun block and towels are also provided free of charge throughout your entire time with them.

Only a year later and Earth Hour had become a global sustainability movement with more than 50 million people across 35 countries participating. Global landmarks such as the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, Rome’s Colosseum and the Coca Cola billboard in Times Square, all stood in darkness, as symbols of hope for a cause that grows more urgent by the hour.

In March 2009, hundreds of millions of people took part in the third Earth Hour. Over 4000 cities in 88 countries officially switched off to pledge their support for the planet, making Earth Hour 2009 the world’s largest global climate change initiative.

Earth Hour 2010 takes place on Saturday 27 March at 8.30pm (local time) and is a global call to action to every individual, every business and every community throughout the world. It is a call to stand up, to take responsibility, to get involved and lead the way towards a sustainable future. Iconic buildings and landmarks from Europe to Asia to the Americas will stand in darkness. People across the world from all walks of life will turn off their lights and join together in celebration and contemplation of the one thing we all have in common – our planet. So sign up now and let’s make 2010 the biggest Earth Hour yet!

It’s showtime! Show the world what can be done!

If you are interested to discuss with us how your organization can get involved and support Earth Hour 2010, contact WWF Singapore, Carine Seror at Tel: 6323 0100 or email cseror@wwf.sg.

On Tuesday, March 16, 2010 here in Bali, Balinese will be celebrating the Hindu New Year “Tahun Caka 1932 “with total silence (no work, no entertainment, no fire/light, no trip and to some even no meals or fasting) start from 06.oo a.m. on march 16 end on 06.00 a.m. the next day.

This special day which we called” Nyepi Day” literally means Silence Day. The Evening before Nyepi day which we called “Pengrupukan” there will be a Purification Ceremony to the entire island, which one symbolized with Ogoh-ogoh.

The Balinese observe Nyepi Holiday to purify their souls. Prior to the event, people create ogoh-ogoh to symbolize evil. Ogoh-ogoh are large effigies in the forms of scary creatures including devils (bhuta-kala), vampires and giants. In modern times, people designate “corrupt persons” as ogoh-ogoh.

Before the Hindu new year, Nyepi, is celebrated in the spring by a day of silence – you can find Ogoh Ogoh everywhere in Bali.

They are mainly built by the youngsters of the villages (banjar) in the weeks and months before Nyepi day.

Parading Ogoh Ogoh on the streets

On the preceding day, all traffic is blocked and the Ogoh-Ogoh monsters are paraded around near the main intersections and finally burned in the evening to drive away evil spirits.

It’s almost like carnival processions in other countries. The kids can stay up long and carry ‘their’ Ogoh Ogoh around. It’s like a beauty competition on who created the most colourful, funny or scary creatures. Of course everyone is proud of their creation and the whole proceedings are very noisy and with the sound of gamelan, screaming and laughing.
